Snoopy's the Great Pumpkin

Last night was pumpkin night. We've been collecting pumpkins over the last couple of weeks but hadn't gone out to get THE pumpkin. Clint took the kids while I tried to put together dinner, and I think he was a little sad- no one wanted to get THE pumpkin. The girls picked out 2 more little pumpkins... not quite sure how he can carve his masterpiece this year.

After dinner, we shared 30 minutes with the Charlie Brown Gang... Addie ruined it for us when she blurted out that Snoopy is the GP! What a riot.

First time- yum.

Homemade buttercream frosting- only the best for the boy!

Playing catch up

It seemed like I was playing catch up all week. Michael had a mystery blister (turns out he has strep), Mary a cold, and another one un-mentioned came home with pink-eye (ick). Through it all we've certainly continued to have some fun!

Friends

This is my friend Kate. I love her because she embraces my quirkiness (see above: mummy dogs for dinner, a.k.a. people wrapped in toilet paper according to Addie).
This is Mary's friend Maren. She liked the mummy dogs too!

The set up

Saturday morning was spent at the apple and pumpkin farm. It was a PERFECT day for it. The raspberries were ripe and ready to be picked along with a ton of apples and pumpkins. Unfortunately, we didn't make it to the corn maze because in true Polly style, I turned my ankle and had to catch a lift to the car on a wagon. Humpf.
I love the series of pictures above as you can see the kids all getting ready for a picture. There are more pictures here if you are interested.
Attendees: Horgans, Paulson, Schaeffers, Perez (Mac is the only little boy! Missing from the picture is baby Erin. She's below with Ed.)

But Mom!

Its started already, the 'but moms'. I hear them ever so often from Addie and know that they are going to be coming at me more frequently. "No buts," we say. But what about this one?

"Addie, you need to come downstairs and get your coat on. Emerson is going to be here to walk to school," I said.
"But Mom..."
"No buts Ad, come on down."
"Mommy I am flossing my teeth. The dentist said that my toothbrush doesn't get the spaces between my teeth clean and that I need to floss EVERY time I brush!"
"Um...okay. But hurry up."

MEA

Today kicked off 2 1/2 days off of school. Addie had 2 friends from school over this afternoon since it was only a half day. Lizzie and Emerson, and Sierra too, came over and we made Halloween cookies. We played outside and in the basement. It was a good old fashioned play date :-)

Bats

Halloween is almost upon us. Although we've been eating candy corn in this house for a month now, we've finally gotten to the decorating. Michale's new word is "bats". He says it whenever we come and go by way of the front door because we have a scary bat hanging there. He says it when he sees birds too- I guess its hard to tell the difference.

This morning when we were dropping Addie off at school he starting saying "bats bats bats" and pointing up. Sure enough, Mrs. Sable's room has approx 25 bats hanging from the ceiling- it was awesome :-)

Earmuffs

For sure some days I wish I could just do this. Clint got up at 5:15 to go running- and so did Michael. He was screaming- I don't mean crying... he was screaming. My first thought was that he had a leg stuck in the crib slats. Nope- he wanted his book "Cars and Trucks and Things That Go" and it was across the room. As soon as he had it in his hands, he was fine and happy as could be. Really- at 5:15? Ugh.

The Bean and the Bee

Poor Sabine has had a tough go in the midwest. Not much sleep, soupy drawers, and now a bee got the better of her at soccer. We hope she'll still come back some day.

Love thy neighbor

This was on my front door when I got home from my race this morning. It came with homemade cookies :-)

Here we are at mile 6, about 2 minutes before the skies opened up in freezing rain! Funny, I've never run in the rain....

She did it!

Through wind and rain and cold, Polly and the girls (and Steve) completed the Twin Cities 10-mile race today. We saw her along the way and then made it to the finish line just in time to see her cross. They did it in 2 hours, which I know is a big accomplishment. I am so proud of her and the kids are too. I'm glad I was there to witness this great achievement, and to see the countless hours of preparation and hard work pay off. Everyone is now huddled up under some kind of blanket proud of a good days work. Congratulations to all the runners today!

TC.5

On Saturday we went over to St. Paul to pick up our race packets and run with the kids in the 1/2 mile family race. What a riot! Addie was so excited to participate and she ran the whole way!

Getting ready in front of the Capitol!

Running up .25m to the St. Paul Cathedral... and then back around to the race finish line.
